A small but enthusiastic group met together at Starbeck Methodist Church on 1st June for the Circuit’s inaugural Rock Up and Worship. The “rock up” in the title means “turn up” and this is the essence of Rock Up and Worship. It’s an informal time of worship (not a rock music event!) – if you are free, simply rock up and join together with others who just rocked up too.
Musicians who had arrived at 4.00 pm had a practice time, followed by pizza, before forming a “scratch” band for the time of worship. The musicians included keyboard, guitars, drums and clarinet and ukulele and were a variety of ages, with the youngest being 9 years old. The band was joined by members from around the circuit for an uplifting time of worship starting at 6.30 pm. We learned some contemporary worship songs, and we sang some old favourites too. We watched a couple of inspiring videos, and we prayed together. It was great to be able to worship together with others from different churches in a relaxed and informal setting.
Each Rock Up and Worship will stand alone, so you can come along to the next one, even if you missed the first one. If you are a musician, of whatever age or ability, you can join the band for the evening, even if you didn’t make the first one. Singers are also welcome to join the musicians for the practice and form part of the band.
The next Rock Up and Worship will be held on Saturday 26th October at the Wesley Centre in Harrogate, so please put this date in your diary. More details to follow.
