This year the walk is 4.75 miles. It will be a round walk starting at Birstwith car park. We will walk to Hampsthwaite which is 3.5 miles taking in a view of Birstwith Hall. On reaching Hampsthwaite we can go to Sophie’s Coffee Shop and anyone wishing to leave us there can either get a bus back to Harrogate or a bus back to Birstwith to get their car. Those who wish to finish the walk it is another 1.25 miles up the river side back to Birstwith.
Those who wish to go by bus please meet at Stand 5 at Harrogate bus station to catch the 1.30 Pateley Bridge bus so we can get off at Birstwith. Anyone coming by car Birstwith car park is situated next to the school which is just off the main road to the right if you are coming via Hampsthwaite. If you come via Burnt Yates you need to drive over the river bridge at Birstwith, continue up the village and the car park is at the top on the left hand side just before you reach the main road. I would like to start the walk at 2pm.
When starting the walk we will walk down the road before going up a field. This is the only hill that is a bit steep and should take about 10 to 15 minutes to get to the top. There is only one stile. We will walk up a road to Swinithwaite but this is a gentle climb (more of a slope!) and not very far.
If you would like to sponsor us there will a sponsor form on the Church notice board. It will be £5 per family to walk, all the money going to the Leprosy Mission.
If you want any further details do come and see me. The Leprosy Mission is very grateful for your generosity in supporting the work they do to make the lives of leprosy sufferers so much better and showing God’s love.
